Tanzawa hike - beginner snow mountain (**.5)
Thursday, 11 February 2010by adminHits : 154

We now have 5 people signed up: Mizuho, Rima, Chae, Seiko, Kaori!

We will be going to mt. Ooyama (1252 m - to make sure we see snow), and visit a temple there. Vertical climb will be about 500m, total hike time about 3 hours.

Here is the plan for the hike:
8:** - meet at Hadano station (秦野)
*:** - bus departs
**** - Arrive at Yabisu-touge (761m), start climb
**** - reach top, rest
**** - start decent
**** - use cable car to go down (or can hike down too)
15:30 - arrive at Isehara station
We can then go to Tsurumaki Onsen, which is just one station away.

Cost: 3,510 JPY (train fr. shinjyuku 650 x 2, bus 460 + 300, cable car 450 + optional Onsen 1,000).

Gear:
- Back-pack
- Warm non-cotton clothers (also rain gear if you have it, in case it is windy or rainy)
- Crampoons or poles
- Water (1 liter), snacks, bento (can also buy at Hadano st.)

Weather notice: There is a 70% probability of clouds / rain on Thursday. I will email on Wednesday evening if the hike is cancelled. If the rain is light I will still go, but it will be no longer a beginner, but "moderate difficulty" hike.

Hi!

This is a beginner trip for those who want to try what its like to hike on snow mountains. On 2/11 (Thursday, holiday) I plan to go to one of 700-800m mountains in Tanzawa - they should have some snow on the very top. Trip time will be around 4 hours, and transport cost around 5,000 JPY. I will send out exact information later.

To join the trip, you should have the regular hiking gear (boots, backpack, warm non-cotton clothers + hat, snacks + water), and preferably a crampoon (アイゼン) or at least hiking poles (ストック). The light 4-teeth crampoon will do fine, its under 2,000 JPY. Here is the one I have:

It is possible that the weather will be warm, so when we go up to 800 meters there will be no snow. In this case, this will be just a regular hike!

If interested, drop me an email.

Alexey
