Summary

1. New event registration calendar so people can sign up on the calendar and organisers publish their own events online... should go to mailing list automatically.

2. New members social area in the new year. Details later so dont worry.

New! ... (chotto takai) events calendar can allow members to put their own events on the calendar and members can sign up directly on the calendar page. It can also send out reminders automatically. Visitors can also sign up for open social events. Comments also possible so we do not need a separate events planning section.

In the near future there should be special input fields set like 'meeting time and place', 'organiser email', 'organiser mobile number'. These can be hidden from visitors but seen by members after login.So no need for Admin to copy, edit and post on the calendar. Members can look at full details online (i-phone) or use mailing list email.

Lots of other features like showing a google map location.

Hopefully the calendar will email the mailing list automatically, or use website software internal mail system to send to members.

It can be combined with new all-in-one system members social area. You can see who posted the event in the new members area.

There are 2 types of registration (plugin) available... one is for members logged in which can be used by ordinary organisers to control their event sign up. Another one can be used for guest sign up to leave name and email. Also payment function for paypal. This will be used for 'open events' which admin organise.

There is a major change in the members area coming soon ... all-in-one website system. I will trasfer  login details after new year. You will have to input your profile details again - sorry.

The system we use now is good for members but terrible for management. I cannot keep losing time over people who ignore the notices to register here before signing up in the members area. The software there cannot be changed by me and creates a lot of tracking work. So sorry, its history after new year. The one we will use is the best available for this website system ...its not free!

I wanted to study others but it takes a long time just to evaluate them, then setting up is also hard for systems like Drupal. I cannot spend that kind of time for such low club fees - impossible.

Maybe later next year or 2011 we will change over to a better CMS than Joomla. It has a lot of problems but it is easy to set up and now has a good events (and registration) calendar which is useful for the club. That is difficult to find or set up on other systems.

I have looked at 15+ CMSs but most do not have a good event calendar. Only a few have good social networking plugins and this is quite recent. Two look very good but as I said ...a lot of MY time and effort - weeks needed. The final list is now small ... I wont give details in public.
