Event Details [イベント詳細], Route and Time [ルートと時間]

Renge Onsen near Hakuba. There are 4-5 natural onsens in the woods, some with good mountain views. I would prefer to camp, but if you want to you can stay in the nearby Yamagoya. I would like to climb Hakuba, or at least get to the lake nearby if weather and snow conditions permit. Sunday, on the way back, we can go to another natural, wild, onsen waterfall. There are separate inside baths in the yamagoya  nearby. This is a beautiful area!

According to the map, there is a campground near the lodge. Up to you to book the lodge if you want to stay inside.

On the way back Sunday, hopefully go to a hot waterfall if it's open.

Optional-if you have Monday off, we can either camp or stay in an easily accessible hinangoya in Yamanashi Sunday night. Could walk about 45 minutes in to free lodge at Kentoku-san (Shoko's trip last weekend), wild camp at Nishizawa-keikoku (many beautiful waterfalls) or somewhere with a view of Fuji-san.

All of the above rotenburo (outside onsens) are very pretty and natural, but will have no changing area and are mixed. So if you're shy bring swimsuit or large towel.  No concrete hotel onsens here!

Maps and Useful links [地図と役に立つリンク]

Things to Bring [持参するもの] If camping-tent, sleeping back good to about 5-10 degrees, stove, food, water. Water is available at all of the places. Goretex or equivalent and decent boots. Trekking poles would be useful if Hakuba.

Travel Details [旅行の詳細] US Navy rental car. Free tolls on the highway. Will leave about 2100 Friday, drive as far as possible, unofficially camp somewhere. Saturday finish the drive.

Meeting Time and Place [集合時間と場所] Sagamiko-eki about 2100 Friday night.

Cost [費用] Renge and Akayu onsen-about 5000 yen for car and gas if 4 people.

same for me - I want to join but presumably have to work on Monday. Is there any Japanese holiday on the 28th I'm not aware of?

See how the sign up works out - people might not be available Monday. Ive been to Honzawa so many times so something new for me.
I can do a snow trip if it doesn't work out - no problem - so plan for the general requirements of people who sign up. If it turns out to be Renge then Im interested if not driving most of Saturday.

Renge looks special, and if leaving around 9pm it shouldn't take long to get close by there. People were camping in ski resort car parks last week.

Sounds good. Last 2 trips to that area recently only took 3.5hrs, even from Sangenjaya. I know a few place to camp also.

Google search shows very nice place (Renge Onsen): 蓮華温泉

Depending on conditions I will hike along the ridge to Shiroumadake, or part of the way - scenery is very good there now. There will be some snow on the trail from about 2,500m probably. Not sure if crampons needed but will be if all the way to the top.
Maybe Lee San will drive if we get more? Im sure can fill up if its reposted as Renge.

Just edit the title and the details and re-announce it. I bet we can get 8-10 people.

I will drop out this time - returning/leaving early Sunday doesn't make it worthwhile for me going all that way. And the extra travel back to Tokyo from somewhere like Enzan by train.

Enjoy!

I turned from a 3 day trip to a 2 day trip but you have other plans for the afternoon on Sunday. Also maybe doing too much if it means leaving Sunday 0800 for the onsen waterfall... 3 days wouldve been better for that, or cut it out if 2 days.

That was my original condition about going (all that way) that we would have 2 full days there. Leaving Friday night to get just 1 full day there then  packing up tents before 0800 to leave and driving around for the waterfall - just driving all day and back in Yamanashi early afternoon so you can do your other plan. Doesn't suit me.

I would rather spend 2 full days at Renge Onsen so we can enjoy the  hot springs and go hiking. Now we have to choose - hike or stay onsen - no time Sunday for anything. I thought we were leaving Hakuba around 4-5pm and back around Otsuki in the  late evening/night.

The place I recommended up the mountain road near there is perfect for driving up and setting up tents late - great night view, great sunrise and view of Fuji which I think was on the old 500en coin.

If you want to go to Kintoki lodge after lunch-early Sunday afternoon, its not worth going all that way from Friday and leaving  the onsen at 0800 Sunday.
That's your holiday ... probably have 2 people now who can stay Monday so maybe that suites you better than trying to adjust plans for people like yourself staying 3 days and others staying 2 days.

Not the cost difference between Enzan and Otsuki (time on local train) but the overall cost, and more importantly, basically back in town on Sunday afternoon when I expected to still be in Hakuba.

Quote
Dave:
Thomas and I may go somewhere, haven't decided. Might have to drop you off at Enzan if we do Nishizawa or Kentoku though. Can reduce tranportation cost a little then. Can be back early enough to get you into central tokyo by 1900 or earlier, Sunday traffic jam doesn't start until after Otsuki. If leave Renge 0800 or so, go to hot waterfall on the way back, etc. Should be in Enzan by 1500-1600. Like I said, don't know what he wants to do so will be flexible.

Renge-if you are coming please let me know ASAP. One member indicated that she wants to come, but I have e-mailed her 4-5 times since last night at 1800 with no response. If you are meeting us at Sagamiko tonight, let me know by 1530 today or the meeting time will be changed to about 0930 Saturday am and we will spend 2 nights at Renge, returning Monday.

In this case, hope to arrive at Renge by about 1300. Spend the day relaxing in various onsens. Sunday-climb Shirouma, about 10-12 hours round trip. Probably some snow left, top is about 2500m. Monday leave around noon, visit onsen waterfall on the way back. No traffic probably so will be a quick trip back to Tokyo.

Cheers

Dave

The other member contacted me, back to original plan.

2100 tonight at Sagamiko. Camp somewhere about 0100. Saturday light hiking 4-6 hours, maybe to Hakuba pond, and onsen. Sunday-relax in baths in am, around noon start back. On the way back visit hot waterfall. Drop one member off at Enzan station around 1700, Thomas and myself will spend the night at free lodge at Kentoku-san and climb it the next day.\

If you want to come, let me know by 1800.

Cheers

Dave
