Honzawa Natural Rotenburo-room for 1 more person
« on: Sat Jun 02, 2012, 09:25 AM »
100% going! Thomas, Ayako  Anais, and myself.  Room for 1 more.

Title and Date [タイトル, 日付]:  Honzawa Natural Rotenburo in Yatsugatake-June 9-10, 2012

Location [場所]: Yatsugatake Mountains, Yamanashi.

Event Grade [イベント等級]: Fitness 2, Technical 2

Contact Details (and sign up conditions) [連絡先詳細(ã¨å‚加ã®æ¡ä»¶ï¼‰] Dave Roland, please sign up on OCJ page, and e-mail me,

Event Details [イベント詳細], Route and Time [ルートã¨æ™‚é–“] We will hike about 1.5 hours on an easy trail to Honzawa-onsen on Saturday. I and at least one other member will probably camp, but there is a yamagoya there also. I think about 6500 yen without food. Camping is 1000 yen or less. Safe water is available. Saturday afternoon, relax in the highest rotenburo in Japan at 2150m or do light hiking.

Sunday, weather permitting, I would like to climb either Ioudake or Tengudake. It is about an hour or so up to the pass, and depending on the mountain, we go either north or south from here. This is optional, if you want to relax at the onsen you can while we are hiking.

Their website is at http://www.yatsu-honzawaonsen.com/

There is an inside, separate male/female bath at the onsen but the rotenburo is semi-wild mixed one with good view of Iodake. Bring swimsuit or towel if you are shy, it's clothing optional

2 videos, taken when it was a bit cooler (like -8 degrees when the video was taken) are here. Tokyo Terebi was filming an onsen TV while we were there.

Maps and Useful links [地図ã¨å½¹ã«ç«‹ã¤ãƒªãƒ³ã‚¯]

Things to Bring [æŒå‚ã™ã‚‹ã‚‚ã®] If camping-tent, sleeping bag good to at least 10 degrees, food, stove, water, goretex or equivalent, decent hiking footwear-no running shoes unless you don't plan to hike after the onsen.

For climbing Iodake or Tengu-probably will be a little snow remaining in the forest. Trekking poles would be useful.

Travel Details [旅行ã®è©³ç´°] US Navy vehicle from Sagamiko station.

Meeting Time and Place [集åˆæ™‚é–“ã¨å ´æ‰€] Sagamiko station on the Chuo-line, time probably 0830-0930, will let you know later.

Cost [費用] Depending on number of participants, 3000-4000 yen from Sagamiko round trip.

I would like to join, perhaps staying at a lodge. Do I have to reserve there?

Thanks!

Honzawa meeting time and weather

Will meet at 0930-1000 at Sagamiko-eki, on the Chuo-sen. I estimate Sagamiko to the trailhead is about 2 hours, quite a bit of local roads, curvy.

On the way, you will probably see the wonderful sign, "Vegetaball With"

Weather forecast says temperatures at 2100m where the onsen is will be 8-10 degrees, if we climb Tengu or Ioudake,  maybe 5-6 degrees plus possible wind so be prepared.

Photos from Winter 2011 are on my Facebook album, https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.238937436126171.65274.100000297505924&type=3 but obviously there won't be much snow now. Was -12 overnight in January 2011.

Do you guys want me to bring meat from the Navy base to make Nabe/sukiyaki for everyone? Can buy vegetables at the supermarket along the way.
