As not much interest, and I am not feeling well, unfortunately will have to postpone this event. But will definitely do it later-it's beautiful area!

Cheers

Event Details [イベント詳細], Route and Time [ルートと時間]

In order to maximize time in the mountains, we will need to leave Friday evening. Hopefully no later than 2100 from Sagamiko. We should be able to be camped at the trailhead no later than midnight. Pretty easy access.

We have 2 options, one quite easy (with harder option on the way back depending on participants's level and experience) and one fairly strenuous.

Easier option: Kisokomagatake
Take the first ropeway from 1600m to 2600m. Hike about  1-1.5 hours over fairly easy trail to campsite at about 2800m. Water and toilets are available at the campsite. Spend the rest of Saturday enjoying the mountain scenery and doing easy climb of nearby Komagatake. Probably will be some snow left.

Sunday-route depends on fitness level and experience of participants. Possible to do 2-3 hour return to ropeway station if less experienced, or a pretty, but long 6-8 hour walk along the ridge and down to the bus stop.

See the view from the top of Komagatake:

If weather looks unstable, backup plan is to go to Akayu Onsen in Niigata, near Naeba ski area. Can either unofficially camp nearby, or stay in the yamagoya. Would be a fairly easy 5 km or so walk in, not too much elevation gain. Akayu is a semi-wild onsen, as it's streamside and is 5km in at least from the car park. Link to info in Nihongo about Akayu at http://www.pre-proj.net/guide/jotyu/akayu.html

Harder option-Shiroumadake and Hakuba onsen, 2nd highest in Japan at 2100m. Hike about 4-5 hours into Hakuba onsen, either camp or stay in Yamagoya. Relax the rest of the day in the onsen, enjoy the view.

Sunday-with all of our gear, climb 3-4 hours to the summit of Shiroumadake. Descend via a different route back to the car park. Total walking time 7-8 hours.

Maps and Useful links [地図と役に立つリンク]

Things to Bring [持参するもの] Tent, warm sleeping bag good to zero or so, water, food, stove, good hiking boots-no running shoes, Goretex or equivalent, trekking poles. Eisen if you have them, not sure how much snow is left.

Travel Details [旅行の詳細] US Navy vehicle.

Meeting Time and Place [集合時間と場所] Friday night, Sagamiko at or before 2100.

Cost [費用] 4000-5000 per person for transportation. Free tolls, only car cost and gas.
