Event Details [イベント詳細], Route and Time [ルートと時間]

Saturday-Drive from Sagamiko, hike about 4-5 hours to our campsite/yamagoya, Yaridaira, at 2000m. You can camp or stay in the lodge, not sure how much it costs though.

Sunday-Climb Yarigatake, probably 8-10 hours round trip, in loop. See attached map. One of Japan's most famous mountains. There will be chains, ladders, etc. so you need to have some experience in Yatsugatake, Alps, etc. If you are a beginner, please contact me by mail. If I have met you before and I think you would be ok, you can come. The last part is quite steep, from the photos I have seen of the top, there appear to be several vertical ladders. A fall could mean serious injury or worse, you must have good balance, strength to hold onto chain and able to climb a ladder . I will carry some safety cord just in case. May be windy and chilly-need adequate water and clothing, none on the ridge unless you buy it from the yamagoyas.

If you don't want to climb, you are welcome to relax in the campground while we climb Sunday. In this case it will be only Fitness 2, Technical 2. Still a pretty hike.
Monday-hike out, early, visit Shinhotaka Onsen and/or Awanoyu, if possible both. Both are Konyoku (mixed) and clothing optional, so bring a towel or swimsuit if you want (not mandatory as some of you know!)

Things to Bring [持参するもの] Tent. sleeping bag, warm clothes, Goretex or equivalent parka, (pants if you have them)good boots, trekking poles, stove, food. The last part is quite steep, maybe windy and chilly. Water is available at the campsite/lodge.

Travel Details [旅行の詳細] US Navy rental car, free tolls. Not expensive. Probably 4000-5000 yen for transportation costs.

Meeting Time and Place [集合時間と場所] Sagamiko-eki, Saturday am

Cost [費用] 4000-5000 per person for transportation-much cheaper than the train!

Unless there is a typhoon, I will not cancel this trip, but it will turn into a 3 day onsen trip if the weather looks bad. Will try to go to as many unique onsens as possible,

I joined in this organization recent.
I interest in Yarigatake. I saw Yarigatake from Tsubakuro-dake in May
That was really beautiful.
I want to know detail which way from Shinhodaka or Kamikouchi

Dave, I had been looking forward to Yarigatake since I joined OCJ.  I hope weather will be OK, without a storm.  I am a little anxious because it is supported in the end of rainy season.  I really wanna enjoy a nice event for the 3-day-weekend.

Kamikochi side is boring ... if by car Shinhotaka is a better route (better views). Can also do loop hike coming down from Minamidake. That way you get good view of Hotaka and Dai-kiretto. It makes an easy 2nd day with quieter camp at Minamidake - good site. Yari to Minamidake is a simple, almost flat path.
Slightly harder but also very nice route is 2nd day to Sugoroku and down again to Shinhotaka.

Club questions go in the 'Contact Us' section. Event questions in the website topic for the event... unless I say call or email me.

Good news, Dave!  I am attending unless typhoons are coming for the event.  I have reserved the three day weekend at work.  If we have to leave on Friday evening, let me know.

I just ordered a tent from Amazon. The mountain can come. :)
Is there a map available online? At what height is the camping site and what temperatures should we expect?

Information about Yarigatake in English is at http://www.yarigatake.co.jp/english/, Nihongo de http://www.yarigatake.co.jp/route/route04.html

I intend to take the blue route as indicated at http://www.yarigatake.co.jp/route/route04.html
and the attached photo, staying 2 nights at the campground at Yaridairagoya, about 2000m elevation. That means we will have a 1200m climb on Sunday to the summit of Yarigatake, 3180m. 7-10 hours hiking, depending on weather. If nice, would like to do a longer loop to see more scenery.

A detailed description of this route in Nihongo is at http://blog.goo.ne.jp/kamiyu-6581/e/5d895702a799e75063574dedaba2e74f

Monday, after hiking out, we will go to Shinhotaka Onsen, a very large konyoku (mixed) rotenburo next to a river. Very close to where we start hiking! Good desription of the onsen at http://www.hikyou.jp/gifu/sinhodaka/sinhodaka/sinhodaka.html Bring towel/swimsuit if you are shy, clothing optional.
If we have time, can go to another one on the way back-白骨温泉 泡の湯, not far off the return road.
