Title & Date: : 1 Day Easy Rocky Ridge Hike - Iwayama (新鹿沼-岩山)
An unusal small rocky mountain with longer ridge not far from Shinkanuma station. Only 275m peak to another peak 328m high. It is an easy fun day out hike everyone can enjoy. Iwayama is near the town so the locals have put some cut steps and safety chains on rocks - basically to protect children playing there. It is very easy. This is the only reason it is not graded technical 2 beginner. Due to OCJ grading it has to be 'above beginner'.
From the south end it is a 'beginner+' hike along the ridge. Chains and ladder mostly not needed. You cannot go down the north end as this has a long difficult chain section and now wet. You will have to return along the ridge the same way back to the shrine. There are 2 paths left and right off the ridge but they are not marked on the map and could have a few steep places.
There are interesting rocks to explore along the ridge.
Also possible to be beginner rock climbing if people have gear and someone safe to set up top rope. Ok to climb here any time of year as hand holds are large.

Probably 15 to 20 minutes to climb the first peak 275m. Interesting rocks there to explore.
Continue along the ridge north (maybe 1 hour) to 328m peak. You can go a little further to rock overlooking golf course but not further! It is dangerous to go down the north end - long steep chains.
Return south along ridge to shrine. There are two side paths but not marked on map and could be steep - if not sure, do not go.

Fitness Grade 1 - Very Easy
Up to about 3 hours walking time and only about 100m elevation climb.
Technical 3 MODERATE - Above Beginner (初級上)
There might be short sections of fixed rope or chain for additional safety of low level hikers but NOT marked as dangerous on maps. Using hands for balance sometimes.

To be done. Basic 1 day trip is Tobu line train to Shinkanuma. It is a 20-30 minute walk to the mountain.
Get on at Tobu Asakusa, Kitasenju, or other station on the line.
Cost
About 2,500en for return trip train.
OCJ is funded by 500yen event attendance (up to 3 days). Collected by organizer who sends half of that to the club PayPal account for website costs.
