Great Aiko! When you have a minute, could you please send me a simple greeting via e-mail? That way I can reach you if necessary. My address is in the Sign Up Conditions, Contact Details section.
I sent it a few days ago. It might have been in your spam folder. Can you check when you have time? : )

Thank you Aiko, Marina, and M. Lee for your e-mails. I have responded to them.

All is well on my end. I will update the group soon. We are now completely full!

Hi Alex, you and Jamilya are A-OK to join. You were added to the list at the top of the original post. Please continue to check this event page. I will be making announcements in the weeks and days ahead of the event. Thanks for double checking with me.

Hello all,

I owe you all an update. Thank you for your patience.

1) Reservations

The reservations to stay at Nakatsugawa Camping Ground have been set. We are all set to stay! They did not give an exact price, but I expect it to be about 2000yen per person.

2) Dinner

I have not ordered the turkeys yet, but I am planning to place an order and secure 3 turkeys by next week. Also on the menu is stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and gravy. I will also provide lots of hot, spiced wine. Breakfast will be bacon, egg, and cheese on a bagel with coffee (NY Deli Style).

3) Volunteer

A few of us older OCJ members will prepare the turkey and main side dishes. However, if you want to help, I recommend bringing a dessert, an hors d'oeuvre, or drinks to share. A dessert is my #1 request. Another idea is to think of a silly or fun game for people to play before or after dinner. I will also need people to help collect firewood from the forest. We need wood for cooking and for a camp fire. We can make a big camp fire, so collect as much wood as you can!

The idea behind the dessert is if 3 or 4 people bring a normal size cake, pie, or dish, then that will be plenty for 24 people. In other words, if you make dessert, you don't have to bake a cake for 24 people. A normal size cake for 8 people is fine. If many people bring desserts, then we will have more variety. Sounds good to me!

4) Things to bring
  • headlamp or flashlight, will be very helpful
  • hat, gloves, scarf, warm jacket, and long underwear
Special Items:
  • plate, fork, knife (help us reduce the waste)
  • cup/mug
  • food container (in case we have leftovers)
  • camping chair
  • thermos (bigger is better, I need them for wine and coffee. I will be giving gold stars *to those that bring thermoses)
5) Transportation

So far, Tammy is the only member who has contacted me about driving. She has rented an 8-passenger van and has offered to take passengers, preferably ladies, but maybe guys too. She will be stopping at Meguro, Shibuya, and Shinjuku before heading to Nakatsugawa via the Chuo Expressway.

One important note is that the campground doesn't officially open to us until 1pm. If you are driving, please try to arrive by 1pm. If anyone else plans to drive and has space, please let me or the whole group know. If you are looking for a ride, let us know, we will help!

6) Cabins

Seb, his son, Marina, Marco, and his wife have already booked one 4-person cabin (with a view). If you and your friends want to do the same, that's fine. You can let me know now or the day of the event. If you don't know where you will sleep yet, that's fine too. You will probably end up with me and Asuka in the 6-person cabin.

7) In Case of Rain

This event will not be cancelled!!! I am a hardcore captain who goes down with his ship. I expect the same of my mates. So, if you have any reservations about this event, you should opt out now while there is still time. Last minute cancellations will throw me off my course. Please be considerate.

If there is rain, we have a massive shelter to stay under and eat our dinner. We can stay under the shelter or our cabins and play games and drink wine. Let's take the opportunity to be grateful for what we have. It is Thanksgiving after all!

Quick announcement.

I placed an order for 3 turkeys today. They will arrive at my doorstep with time to thaw and be seasoned ahead of the event.

I have also added a "Shared Offerings" section at the top of the original post. You can see what other joiners are preparing for the event so that you can better decide on what to bring. Don't feel obligated to bring anything (other than what's on the Things to Bring List). Your presence and positive energy are what will contribute most to this occasion.

Please continue to check this site and the original post for updates, especially the week before 11/7.

Thanks for organizing the party.

I'll bring some fruit maybe an apple,
kiwifruit, persimmon,blueberry...and so forth.

I'll stay at my parent's home that week, so
I'm coming to the party by train and bus.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone that time.
thanks,

Hiro
