Autumn Colours and Red Maple!
End of November - December; Kanagawa, Chiba, Ibaragi (Tsukuba San - top 100 mountain of Japan and easy hike) are coming good. Lots of places in Chiba reaching peak colours.
Nice hike near station in Tochigi - Iwa yama.
=============
End of November and December
Chiba has some good colours later on and exceptional river gorge hikes with natural tunnels and deep sandtone cuttings. Hardly any water but some of the most beautiful hikes I did and after 20+ years in Japan overlooking places like Chiba.
Near Takago mountain there is a government campsite open even at New Year. Takago mountain is easy and interesting rocks around shrine near the top. You can pick wild kaki (persimmon) on some routes. Also good spot for wild camp in forest.
Also easy walks around Yorokeikoku.
Volunteers needed to post details so members can attend.
If you search the outdoor events section you will find information on many of these events from previous years.

This would make a good location for anyone interested in organising an easy club camp. This is at a government campsite in Chiba which is open 365 days a year I think - open at New Year even.
Cottages are comfortable and prices are much cheaper than private campsites.
Easy to set up BBQ on cottage veranda (rentals there). There is a camp option 200m away but not the same facilities.
At this time of year there is a lot to do in this area:
1. Easy hikes in local mountains - not high but interesting sandstone rocks with old shrines.
2. River walking in steep gorges with natural water tunnels - very little water! Very beautiful.
3. Still red maple later in December and plum blossom opening at the campsite. Also a lot of citrus fruit around there in winter.
4. A lot of wild animals in this area - deer, wild boar, racoons, badgers, foxes, monkeys etc.
Public transport access by train and bus possible.
