New Year Free Lodge. Jan. Tanigawadake Valley Easy Snowshoe

Post by Andy OCJ »

New Year Free Lodge
If several interested there are places in Tanzawa and Okutama for New Year sunrise with a stay at a free shelter lodge.
Sleeping bag for -5C comfort range will be needed, mat, food, basic crampons maybe or snow spikes.
Depends how many are interested. You can see photos in the OCJ gallery at the end of the albums , or beginning (end of year, beginning of January).

January Tanigawadake Valley Easy Snowshoe and Free Lodge (option for snow cave)

Great trip but winter gear needed. Even online cheap snowshoes are ok.
Walk up the valley, or on the forest road from the Tanigawa ski lift. Free lodge at Ichinokura with amazing views. We often dug snow caves and slept in them with the free lodge for meals etc.

The hut appears to have been renovated so need to check it is open during winter.

Sleeping bag for -10C, mat winter clothing for -10C. Good boots and snowshoes.
For the snow cave you will need a cheap shovel and plastic sheet to remove snow and put your sleeping mat on.

Best in January but possible in February when the snow is harder - not as beautiful.
You can find in the photo gallery checking January of each year.
