Simple design, 2 pole (centre crossing) dome tents.
Side door is best so that rain does not enter when opening zips.
These are the best for setting up in bad weather and on snow. Simple design is usually strongest.
They have headroom in the middle and porch for cooking.
Low weight about 1.5kg
Choosing Tents
Depends on money ... 3 options:
1. You buy a outdoor shop (3 season+) tent for about 40,000en (light 1.5kg, waterproof, small pack)
Arai tents (Trek Raiz), PuroMonte, Paigne, Montbell, Nippin (二ッピン) Messner tent.
1B. Some discount quality tents if you can find.
Oxtos at 25,000en-30,000en for similar quality quality - buy them!
The company has recently put up prices... considerably! They may not be the bargain they were.
2. You buy a cheaper heavier tents like Dunlop or Montbell for 20,000en (not recommended)
Heavy 2kg+.
Big pack size.
3. You buy a junk tent from department store or discount shop for 1,500en to 3,000en.
Only during spring, summer and autumn in good weather and low mountain.
These are 'junk' tents...
Heavy rain - no good.
Not strong and materials and poor quality. Break soon.
But 2,000en... you can go camping on the islands or Okutama without spending a lot of money. If it breaks after 5 trips - it is ok, it was cheap and you save expensive room fees but you are throwing away plastic. Environmentally they are bad.
The best I can find now that are cheaper (not famous brand) is Oxtos:
UPDATE: They increased prices ... not a bargain now.
